Retro Moment: The Princess Bride
It's time to show my soft side.
I know I lose manhood points for saying this, but the Princess Bride is my favorite movie of all time.
A borderline chick-flick, the movie does have fencing, fighting, torture, revenge, giants, monsters, chases, escapes, true love and miracles!
It also has Princess Buttercup, who was never really seen again after the movie.
In 1987, I was a huge professional wrestling fan, and Andre the Giant was one of my favorites. Knowing nothing about the movie except that he was in it, I wound up seeing it alone. Since then I have watched the movie multiple times, and like many fans can quote my favorite moments.
The movie teaches you many things, like:
- nothing is impossible,
- How to start a conversation,
- How to be humble,
- Stay positive,
- and that there is a shortage of perfect breasts in the world.
This movie had a huge affect on me. Back in the day when I had an AOL account, this is what I had under "real name".
If you've never seen it, I suggest you pick it up. It's definately a movie worthy of its cult status.

Princess Buttercup probably currently remains the most famous of the actors starring in the movie. She's Jenny from Forrest Gump! I loved the movie!

my name is inigo montoya. you killed my father, prepare to die!!
There's no shame in loving The Princess Bride, my friend. It's one of the ten greatest films ever made, IMHO.
Buttercup didn't disappear, though. As one of the previous commenters noted, Robin Wright (now usually billed as Robin Wright Penn) is a very busy actress. She's done about two dozen movies since The Princess Bride, and according to the Internet Movie Database, she has a half-dozen more currently in the works.
How could I miss Forrest Gump? I'm glad she's working!
Kick ass movie. One of my faves.
You forgot storming the castle! It's got great castle storming too.
Would you ever have guessed, though that Princess Buttercup would end up with Sean Penn? ewwwww!
Princess Bride rocks! Yes, yes, I know that technically, I'm a chick...but, if it makes you feel any better, I HATE chick flicks (with the exception of a couple, I admit)!
My favorite was the rhyming scene. Probably because it was so damn funny listening to Andre the Giant say "anybody want a peanut?" ;)
Sorry to beat a dead horse, but Princess Buttercup is far from over. In fact, all that is lost is her beautiful hair. I used to marvel over her hair. So sad, really.:(
You keep saying that word...I do not think it means what you think it means.
whoever said robin wright was the most famous is crazy... cary elwes is my hero! he's been in tons of stuff (except he usually plays the bad guy)
